ESFTUG leaders held press-conference to respond to recent accusations towards ESFTUG leader and organization in general.
According to Maia Kobakhidze, Teachers’ Union is a sole organization that protects teachers’ rights and represents them in court. ESFTUG is also a member of Education International (EI) and together with EI and AFT implements a project that helps the trade union to develop institutional capacity.
“Project funded by US Department of State is implemented in four countries: Georgia, Honduras, Zimbabwe and Egypt. These countries were selected due to recent cases of government’s interference in union activities” – Ms Kobakhidze added.
During the press-conference, ESFTUG condemned Aleko Shalamberidze’s (a leader of “Free Georgia”) statements about the closure of the organization and announcement of a new Congress. Trade union representatives also criticized their ex-members and said that they were controlled by the former government.
They also talked about a lawsuit that is discussed by Appellate Court and final decision will be known on 20 November. Plaintiff side demands annulment of the 6th Extraordinary Congress results.
