Educators and Scientists Free Trade Union of Georgia sent a letter to Minister of Education and Science – Dimitry Shashkini, sending copies to Director of National Center for Teachers’ Professional Development – Gia Mamulashvili and Director of National Assessment and Examinations Center – Maia Miminoshvili.
“Mr. Minister
Educators and Scientists Free Trade Union of Georgia has been protecting teachers’ labour and legal rights for 105 years and one of the main aims of our union is to promote and support teaching profession.
As a result, we remind you that according to Article 26(ze) of “Law on General Education” the Ministry shall plan activities in coordination with trade unions for upgrading teachers' qualifications.
In spite of this requirement, for more than a year already, the Ministry ignores teachers’ union. Therefore we are unable to be involved in education reform implementation process.
On 20 June, 2011, we addressed National Center for Teachers’ Professional Development to request public information concerning the number of teachers in the country, the number of candidates registered for certification exam of 2011 and the number of teachers who will participate in certification trainings for free. Sadly, we have not received any answer to our letter.
As long as we need those numbers to implement union’s aims and objectives, based on article 10, 37 and 40 of General Administrative Code of Georgia, we once again request the following information:
1. The number of teachers in the country;
2. The number of teachers who registered for certification exams of 2011;
3. The number of places for teachers who wish to participate in free trainings to prepare for certification exams of 2011;
4. Official data providing the results of certification exams of 2011.
