Activities of the ESFTUG Professional Teachers’ Advisory Council (2022/10 – 2025/05)
In February 2023, the Professional Teachers’ Advisory Council of the Educators and Scientists Free Trade Union of Georgia (ESFTUG) was established. The council is led by Roland Khojanashvili, an expert in the national curriculum and school authorization standards, as well as a mentor teacher of Georgian language and literature.
The structure of the Council and the duties of its members are regulated by a statute approved by the ESFTUG Executive Board. During the reporting period, four two-day working sessions were held.
Key accomplishments of Roland Khojanashvili and the Advisory Council:
1. A 56-hour training was delivered at the ESFTUG Satsire Professional Development Center on the following topics: authorization standards for general education schools, measuring stage outcomes, and teachers’ professional responsibilities and needs.
2. Over 60 training sessions were conducted on teacher portfolio development and enhancement.
3. A 20-hour training covering the same topics reached nearly 10,000 participants from approximately 60 regional organizations.
4. A 120-hour professional development online course was conducted in 46 rounds, attended by nearly 3,000 teachers.
5. A 50-hour examination preparation training for special education teachers was held, with 300 participants.
6. A training session on the development of individual learning plans was conducted for 200 participants.
7. A 30-hour exam competency training in Georgian language and literature was attended by 300 participants.
8. A 10-hour training on analytical writing was provided for 300 participants.
9. Four-day training sessions were held for aspiring school principals, along with individual support and consultations.
10. Four two-day seminars of the ESFTUG Professional Teachers’ Advisory Council were held.
Additionally:
National and regional conferences were initiated and mentored by Roland Khojanashvili. During the reporting period, as part of professional engagement and union solidarity, ESFTUG organized experience-sharing events, including:
• Four national conferences (2 online and 2 regional) on the theme: "Educational resources aligned with the third-generation national curriculum and the integration of international practices into local contexts."
• Twelve regional conferences in support of non-certified teachers, including one held online.
As a result of this extensive work, thousands of teachers have improved their status, enhanced their professional and career development, and become more actively engaged in union activities.
