Technologies are changing the education system - they are making teachers' Transforming the profession.
Key facts about teachers and technology in education from the Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM):
- 45% of teachers in 94 countries report that they have not been consulted about new technologies (Education International),
- Even after training, only 43% of teachers feel fully prepared to use technologies (OECD, 2020).
- Only 5% of education systems are protected by special programs and very few teacher training programs on cybersecurity (data protection) issues (APWG, 2022).
- Only 49% of countries have created standards for the use of technology for teachers (#GEMReport’s PEER).
Only ¼ of education systems have legislative norms to ensure teacher technology training programs (GEM Report’s PEER).
- School leaders must play a key role in creating the right conditions for integrating technology into schools.
Technology has enormous potential, but much needs to be done to ensure that teachers are better supported, protected, and equipped.
By addressing the shortcomings and challenges, it is possible to create modern and relevant education systems.
