ESFTUG president publishes a statement concerning recent events happening in Penitentiary System: “Unfortunately, mistakes have been made not only in penitentiary system but also in the system of education. We see that students and young people have acted the most accurately to protest against ongoing events. First of all, I want to thank all students, who participated in yesterday’s demonstration and publicly expressed their opinions regarding the horrific videos that have gone viral recently. Their action is exemplary for everyone as it shows how it is possible to reach aim by standing together. Teachers should also overcome fear and publicly demonstrate their civil position.

Next Parliamentary elections will further define the role of teachers in a society, as either in election commissions or elsewhere, they shall be the guarantees to protect rights and choice of citizens of Georgia.

Unfortunately, teachers are deprived from the freedom of association and expression. Instead of classrooms, government created jails and strained environment for teachers.

Educators are constantly controlled by bailiffs, which violates their dignity. Today all these problems lost importance after seeing the videos from prisons. We think that it is time to start action for changing existing situation.

To our opinion, a new parliament should fundamentally change an existing labour code and approve a new, modern, European law that will form grounds for improving social and legal conditions for the employees.
