21 March was set the World Down Syndrome Day, under the auspices of the United Nations on November 10, 2011.
March 21 is the World Down Syndrome Day. Statistically, one out of every 600-800 babies is born with the Down syndrome. A child with this syndrome might be born to any parent.  It is neither hereditary nor contagious. Syndrome is detected among girls and boys with the same frequency
Down syndrome is the human genetic condition when all cells have 47 chromosomes instead of 46.  This is a natural condition, and therefore, Down’s syndrome is not a disease.
On March 21, 2006, the International Day of Persons with Down syndrome was first celebrated.
In many countries around the world, on this day, there are various activities to raise awareness about Down syndrome, among these countries is Georgia.
March 21 is celebrated in Georgia. This event aims to protect the dignity and rights of people with Down syndrome and ensure prosperity.
The purpose of the World Down Syndrome Day is to inform the public about the disease, to protect the rights of the victims and ensure their participation in active life.

  • When we are talking with a person with Down syndrome or a friend of his it is important to use his or her name and not refer to them as a person with Down syndrome.
  • While conversing, we should bring the person to the foreground and not their genetic condition.
  • It is unacceptable to use the following terms in a conversation: a person sick with the Down syndrome, sick with Downism, a Down. The correct term to use is: a person with Down syndrome.
    The “Lots of socks” campaign

    ????Why the odd socks?!

????Socks are similar to the chromosomes. The odd socks have brought information about the Down syndrome and the trisomy of the 21st chromosome couple to lots of people around the world.
