"The Vejen Gymnasium in the southern part of the Kingdom of Denmark is planning a close partnership with new international associations."

On Thursday, September 5, the group of Georgian teachers and trade union representatives visited the Gymnasium of Vejen. They attended several lessons, talked to students, colleagues and gymnasium management.

Visiting schools is part of a two-year collaboration project between the Danish and Georgian Teachers' Unions (ESFTUG and GL).

After a week-long visit to Denmark, the Georgian delegation will leave for the country on Friday... The participants are overwhelmed with motivation, to do their best to contribute to the ongoing processes in the Georgian education system.

Within the framework of the above-mentioned project, the Danish teachers will visit Georgia and hold six seminars. They hope that their experience will help their Georgian counterparts in the development of education policy.

Among the invited teachers is Mirela Redzic, who is a teacher and international coordinator at Vejen Gymnasium. She travels to Georgia in week 41 to give lectures on the Danish school system with a high school teacher from Copenhagen.

It is noteworthy that since last year the Vejen Gymnasium has begun to develop international ties. As a result, they hosted Egyptian students in April this year and already in November their students will leave for Egypt.

Mirela Redzic hopes that with the help of the Georgian Education Trade Union, cooperation between teachers and students will deepen between the two countries and that their gymnasium students will visit Georgia in the near future.

This dream is backed by the principal of the high school, Lars Amdisen Bossen.

“We tried to establish a cooperation with Tunisia but gave up. Now we have contacted the teachers and their professional organization in Georgia via Mirela and the Danish Teachers' Association. If you succeed in building a collaboration, it will be fantastic. No one had probably dreamed that we would have a good cooperation with Egypt, but we got it, so let's see where this ends.”

The principal of the high school, who is very proud that the Georgia teacher group expressed great enthusiasm for everything they saw and met at the high school in Vejen.

The group reflected that Vejen Gymnasium had independent, motivated students who dare to take responsibility.

Inspiration for the homeland

Mari Alugishvili - Vice President of the Educators and Scientists Free Trade Union of Georgia said about the visit:

“Our teachers are very impressed to see and experience how the Danish teaching system works. The students here at the high school seem motivated and independent, and it is exciting to experience the personal contact that exists between teachers and students. You have a good framework for creating good teaching, and it is inspiring to see the way in which the Danish education system is financially supported by the Danish government. We hope that in Georgia we can succeed in creating something similar, so that we can educate good students who feel like - and dare to take responsibility for - improving conditions in our country.”

Teachers from Georgia also noted that the teachers at Vejen Gymnasium are professional and manage to leave any personal problems at home, so they are 100 percent present when teaching.

According to Mirela Redzic, the visit from Georgia not only provided the foreign group with inspiration and knowledge but also had the effect that the high school students who were asked to tell about their schooling became aware of the good conditions they have. They felt, according to Mirela Redzic, great pride in showing off their school.
