
One of the first strikes of female employees of New York sewing factories happened on March 8, 1857. This protest was caused by unbearable working conditions and unfairly low celeries. The women got raided by the police.
The same women founded the first trade union in 1859. Among the most important events that have happened on this day is “Triangle Shirtwaist” the fire that happened in 1911 in a textile Factory in New York. Over 140 women died during this fire. After this tragedy, the trade union became famous worldwide.
