8 martiMarch 8 has been declared the International Women’s Day since 1975 by the United Nations. However, the idea of celebrating the International Women’s Day has been around since the beginning of 20th century. During the period of fast international industrialization and economic expansion, the working conditions of the laborers was unbearable, this often caused mass protest.
One of the first strikes of female employees of New York sewing factories happened on March 8, 1857. This protest was caused by unbearable working conditions and unfairly low celeries. The women got raided by the police.


The same women founded the first trade union in 1859. Among the most important events that have happened on this day is “Triangle Shirtwaist” the fire that happened in 1911 in a textile Factory in New York. Over 140 women died during this fire. After this tragedy, the trade union became famous worldwide.
